Musical Roots
I grew up in family of musical women, my Mother, Grandmother and Grandaunt were all piano players so the Sweeney house always resounded to the sound of music. In spite of this I did not play until the age of 20 when I discovered Bob Dylan who made me reach for the guitar and turned me on to the beauty, power and simplicity of American folk music.

For the last 25 years the sound track of my life has been provided by people like Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, John Hurt, Gary Davis and Doc Watson. And for 25 years I have played their music at house parties, pub sessions and on the street.

Last year I went into a studio for the first time and cut thirteen tracks. The result my first album "The Essential Acoustic Blues Collection" is a homage to the great county blues men and women of the 1920s and 1930s whose music has given me so much pleasure and whose lives have inspired me.
